My goal as an educator is to provide students with the tools and knowledge necessary to be engaged, mindful civic participants. I continue to work to develop and hone my teaching skills and approaches for higher education and for the broader community.

I served as the Instructor of Record for two undergraduate courses (Environmental Analysis, Public Lands Management) and one online graduate course (Climate Change and Global Environmental Sustainability). I have also led discussions, given guest lectures, and designed assignments for 10 different courses.

In 2019, I was recognized as an educational leader with high potential of professorial success by UC Davis when I was selected as one of ten graduate students to participate in the prestigious Professors for the Future program. As part of this fellowship, I organized workshops on research communication and building an online network of scholars.

 

Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy focuses on three tenants:

1) cultivating interdisciplinary and diverse perspectives in the classroom and across my syllabi

2) capitalizing on active learning to reinforce concepts of environmental policy and adapt my teaching on the fly

3) facilitating critical thinking to deepen students’ engagement with course topics
